I agree, I really doubt the monte will return. the damand for big coupes just isnt there anymore.. From having my Monte and 2 kids, I can attest to it not being easy with car seats, in particular, the rear facing modes. Not easy.

Well, keep in mind, this IS a 2 door. The 4 door Malibu and Impala's are meant more for families. I see the Monte Carlo coming back, but fully revamped... and unfortunately I see the huge rear ends and unique tail lights going away

God forbdi they bring it back as a minivan. hey, maybe ti will come back as soemthing to compete with the Dodge Magnum, only time will tell....

While we LOVE our Montes, I only own one because they didn't sell. At one pointe we had over 20 montes on the lot over a year old. They were almost as bad as the SSRs. Hell, we had a NEW 2003 in 2006. We had to give it away to get rid of it.

Impala, malibu, cobalt, and HHRs are our hot sellers, and oh, the AVEO lately, and I wouldn't own one if you gave it to me! We have HIGH hopes on the 2009 Camero, but dealers will KILL IT, by charging $3000-$9000 over sticker.

The Chevy dealer where I bought my Monte has the same problem. My 2004 Dale jr sat on the lot since 2004 until I bought it almost two months ago. And they have a second one exactly the same still on the lot never sold.

I think one problem with the 2000 and upMonte's is people looking for lots of HP can get more stock HP from smaller, cheaper vehicles. Unfortunately GM went through a two decade phase of watering down the power in their engines for the sake of gas mileage. GM was becoming a joke, offering cars with average performance, average style, below average reliability, all at a sticker price that was higher than the other car manufacturers.

That said... I'm glad GM has finally come to their senses, and is finally improving their products and offering engines with lots of horses. And they've finally started making 8 cylinder RWD cars again, like their competition.

Y'know. I totally agree with Taz. I think the 06-07 revamp of the montes were a last chance for it. I dont see any future for the monte other then the ones in our driveways. I mean even dodge took the charger and made it a 4 door. I dont think the monte has a market, and after talking to my Toyota buddy, even the Solara's sales are falling rapidly. Todays market just doesnt support large coupes..

Never say never.

Crysler brought back the 300.

Ford brought back the 500.

Buick brought back the Roadmaster.

And the list goes on.

They said that in the 80's too and sure enough we got our cars back in the 90's. I think it's going to be around 2012 - 2015 before they rerelease the Monte.

All of those are true.. But I mean whats the survivability of the monte really? I remember the Ford Tbird/Mercury Cougars, which have flopped, the monte was re introduced and has had a good run in our eyes, but again, according to the numbers, has flopped, The GTO? Which never made it to Canada's production? And I remember the late dodge avengers that were supposed to be along those lines not too long ago. The honda prelude? Is there really a market for a large sports coupe? I dont think there is. I think it all comes down to numbers, and I think the numbers show there is no market for it. At least in GM's eyes, which are filled with dollar signs.

I think in order for a new monte to be viable, you'd need to give it something the upcoming camaro doesnt have, and a cost that anyone can afford, that fits family life. Im pretty sure dodge figured it out when they made the new charger, 300, and magnum series. So I wonder why chevy hasnt re-inroduced the same way.

I think, have the Corvette as the super car, and the Camaro as more of a muscle car. The monte as your everyday sports car, and your cobalt as your small car. Thats it. Get rid of the 4 doors wearing SS badges. You want to go fast, get a two door, or strap a rocket engine to your minivan.

And for the 4 door line, a fullsize, like a caprice, impala, malibu, and cobalt. Ditch the aveo. Nice outsourced car an everything, but a cobalt aint much more money.

SUV line. Suburban, equinox, and bring back the tracker size.

Also GM has got to stop with the sticker swapping. For example, the pontiac pursuit and chevy cobalt. Ok. We know they are the same car. Why fake it and waste money by producing 2 cars that are the same. And 5 mini vans with different names? Build one model, and leave it. Gm's been doing this for years tho.

Chances of this happening? Not until GM stops seeing $ and starts looking at thier customers wishes, and we know how that works.

Thats why I dont think the old general will reintroduce the Monte. Seems like he wont bring back something unless it makes money. New mustang comes out. Boom! New camaro coming out. Ford redesigns thier trucks, then dodge, then toyota, honda brings out a truck, then GM decides to bring out the new silverado/sierra. Dodge brings back full-sized rear wheel drive cars again, 300, charger, magnum. Chevy? This Zeta platform we have been praying for since the concept camaro rolled.

Unless someone else designs a large sport coupe that sells and makes an insane amount of money, I wouldnt count on the monte coming back. As for us, we have to preserve our montes and keep praying.

Im done.

Can't imagine the Monte Carlo ever being a 4-door. It would be like making the El Dorado or Toronado coming back a 4-door.

But Chevy does have a Corvette Concept 4-door so once again, I could be proven wrong.
