greetings, i just bought an 02 SS model. it was sold as an earnhardt edition, but after reading the details online i have doubts.
the car is all black, no silver/red stripe. no RCR logos .the only thing is an earnhardt badge on the trunk . what do i actually own?

It's most likely a regular Monte Carlo SS that some one has put an Earnhardt sticker on. If the badge says Earnhardt Chevrolet and has the city of Newton, NC -- that's a dealership sticker from the Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet dealership. The dealership sells them on their website.
If your 02 is a real Dale Earnhardt Monte, you'd have his signature inside the speedometer. At the very least, since it's the hardest thing to swap out. Cars can get repainted. And being your car is 11 years old, it wouldn't be unusual for someone to have repainted the car. Maybe they didn't like the silver and red? Maybe they just didn't care about the Dale Earnhardt stuff?
A real 02 DE Monte had the silver and red on the outside bottom, like you know. It also had a 3 with Dale's signature under it, on both rear pillars (behind the rear-side windows) in the form of decals. It had an "Intimidator" decal on the trunk lid. And the RCR decal you mentioned. All of this is stuff that would disappear if someone repainted the car. And many of those decals are no longer available from the dealerships.
It's not unheard of for someone who doesn't really care about the collectibility of his/her own car, to sell off the Dale Earnhardt logo'd items to the highest bidder. Especially the floor mats, headrests, and even speedometer.
But realistically, I think you have a nice looking 02 Monte SS with a Dale Earnhardt decal someone stuck on it. Still a great car.
Used car lots, and some times private sellers, take advantage of people. Many times they try to pass off any black Chevy with an Earnhardt sticker as an "Intimidator edition". Which is why GM had to issue certificates of authenticity for real Intimidator editions. Those C of A's were only issued to the original owner though. It was up to the original owner to pass it on to the next owner if they sold it. Many times, the original owner kept it or threw it out.

I know searching on this forum the GM phone number has been posted many times over. If it's a real Dale Earnhardt edition, you can also call the number, provide them the VIN and they will provide you information such as what production number your car was.
But if you don't have his signature on your speedo, my guess is, it's more then likely a nice black Monte.

Sounds like someone may find themselves removing a decal pretty soon...... Hope it's the real deal, but you have to ask yourself, "Do you feel lucky punk?" Ha ha perfect time for the Dirty Harry line.
