Default Need your opinion about an issue

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I wrote on this forum, but I regularly read you guys.

I still have my 2004 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged, it now has 130,000 kms on it. It spends winters in the garage so it still is in good shape despite it is now 20 years old. Everything is original including most of the paint, which is a bit rough I have to admit.

But lately I had an issue which worries me a bit:

When starting the engine after the car has been sitting a few days, when shifting form Park to Reverse, a loud metallic clunk is heard. Then when driving, similar clunks or cracking, but not as loud, can be heard when stopping from moderate speed, or re-accelerating after a complete stop.

I have searched this forum and others, also looked into TSBs but could not find any significant information about it, that's why I asked for your opinion, hoping somebody knows something about it. Any info very welcome.

Thanks

The flexplate on these like to crack, causing a clunking noise. But it could very well be an axle issue. I had a clunking when going from park to reverse and it ended up being the lower engine and transmission mounts.

Good call guys.

It was actually the left CV axle.

Thank you for your advice, very much appreciated.
