Default Mysterious electrical box in my trunk. HELP!

Hey guys. I bought my 2001 monte ss back in october and now that ive paid a lot of it off, i want to start customization. I was thinking exaust, but I didn't want the engine drone (especially because of my daily highway commute), So i thought about dynamatting the trunk. Opened up the trunk and looked around and saw a little metal box with a bunch of wires coming out of it mounted behind the driver side wheel. It says AC DELCO ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS on the sticker... anyone have a clue what the heck it is? It's not the amp... thats under the rear deck. I took it to my local stereo shop and the guy looked at it and basically gave me a "i havent the slightest clue".

If you have On-Star, that's probably the electrical box for it. If you are talking about the one in front of the left tail light, then that is it.

It's probably missing the black cover for it.

Like the others have said, it's the Onstar module. Since your car is a 2001, it's most likely the old analog system that GM stopped using almost a year ago. The analog onstar box is now a useless paperweight. Just like the one currently sitting in my trunk. You can unplug and remove it and everything should be fine. The only difference you should notice is one of the little LED lights in the rear-view mirror (to the right of the buttons) should go out.

The black plastic box that originally covered the unit in the trunk was most likely removed for space.

If you still have the little antenna stuck to the back window, you can peel that off too. There's no hole in the glass. So you don't have to worry about water leaking into the car. It is simply held on with double sided foam tape, and you can carefully peel it off with a putty knife. Just slowly work your putty knife under the base of the antenna. What ever glue/tape is left stuck to the glass can be rubbed off, or use some tape & glue remover. I wouldn't recommend using a flat screw driver. You're more likely to scratch or break your window.
