I am not sure what mods you are going to do to you're L67 Monte to get to 400 HP Crank...let alone get to enough HP to "Blow the doors" Off of a 400 HP Car....but that is another discussion entirely.

Yes perhaps the base price of each car is different however there is also something you are missing....

Buy a Stock LS2 400HP GTO and all of the parts surrounding that HP are designed to support that HP...The Engine, The Transmission, Suspension, the Brakes, drivetrain, etc etc.

Now buy an L67 and mod it...all the parts surrounding it are designed to support 240hp...yes you can bump it up to 260hp, even a lil over 300 HP like the V8's (And yes I own a v6, but even in v8 form 300HP or a lil over is pretty much the glass ceiling).

After that you have to worry about all supporting mods...The Transmission needs to be upgraded, even the engine itself can't take massive shots of Nitrous, the brakes the suspension, the axles...Everything has more of a chance of going due to the higher Stress you're putting on the car....and just because you upgrade it doesn't mean the upgraded part will last longer.

So this goes back to reliablility it goes straight down when you start heavily modding the car with Power Adders (either upgrading the stock SC or adding a Turbo or Nitrous...which means you may break down, which leads to tows and the car being in the shop....And if the car is your DD to use to get to work or school or just to the store all this can lead to issues and either lead you to get a Daily driver or get so frustraited that you give up on it completely....

And even after you do all that modding just to get to beat or stay with a car that already produces that power stock....eventually that owner will have money to do mods and there starting off with 400 HP Stock.

Again if you're comparing both cars with all of there attributes a case can be made for either, one depending application. But if you are talking specifically about the Performance attribute In my opinion the GTO would win hands down over a Monte either in it's v6 or v8 state.

I think this could be an amazing deal. If I had the cash I'd be already on my way home with it!

I'm not in this whole "heated debate", but just thought i'd throw this out there.... The L67 bottom end can handle over 600 horse power, thanks to forged I beam connecting rods and a forged crank. Not sure about the pistons. It's a whole different ball game than the regular L36 3800. But yes, the trans, needs to be upgraded to handle such power. By the way, has anyone installed a trans brake on the 4T65E transmission?
