There can be made a case for both cars.

Performance...The GTO Will win hands down....build you're monte all you want but dollar for dollar the GTO will most always be faster. I have put a lot of money to mod my monte to be some what quick, but I could have put half the ammount into the GTO and still be way faster...I have an emotional connection to my monte and thats why I modded it with a turbo but reliability goes way down when adding a power adder even when you do all the right upgrades.

The Monte does have a better ride, and more interior room and cargo space so if you're looking to haul things around in a car the monte wins hands down especially with the pull down rear seats.

And while the monte may handle better in the snow cause of the FWD, don't think that the GTO Cause it's rwd must sit in the garage all winter....As stated if you handle the power responsilbly...Keep the traction control ON, Make sure you're tires aren't completely bald and drive at a safe speed you shoud be fine...I can't tell you how many accidents happen in these cars cause the Traction Control is off, or someone was speeding in bad conditions and then everything gets blamed on it being a rwd car.

As for the looks they are based on opinions, but I agree the Monte does Look better....But also going by "Any car can be made fast with the right mods", I also believe any car can be made to look good with the right mods....And even still some people like the sleeper look...Yeah many of people passed by the GTO without giving it a second look...Until the light turns and they finally catch up to me asking what kinda car it is....

The prices of the GTO have really dropped which has garnered it even more attention now then when it first came out IMO...

But I think the right advice has been given, if you're looking for a nice reliable DD then go with the Monte, if you're looking for a lot of power and a nice cruiser then the GTO is the best bang for the buck that's out there IMO.

Yeah, was looking at the LS2's, not the LS1's. But dollar for dollar you can make a L67 monte faster than a GTO, including the purchase price of the vehicle. A nice used GTO goes for around 19-20k and I purchased my Dale Jr. for about 1/3 of that price. I could put another 13 grand into my monte and blow the doors off a 6.0 GTO and we'd have the same overall amount of money wrapped up into our cars. Just a thought. I always here "put the same amount of money into both of the cars and a GTO will smoke it" Well include the prices of the vehicle and you change the whole game. Cuz at the end of the day, it's all about the American green.
