When my car goes into 4-cyl mode I love it, HATE IT! I like the attempt to save me gas - but I have yet to get any better than 15.6-MPG. I got better gas mileage from my 1500 Seirra with 5.7 towing my Bass Boat, than I get with my SS Monte Carlo.

But again, that PA, PAPA, PA coming out of my flowmasters sounds so bad!!! I beginning to hate the DoD/EFM system, and I know in the end it will make me hate the car. How have you guys dealt with that awful sound?

 

I have a Diablo tuner and disabled the "DoD" option, as i dont like the sound either.

 

Just as I said before the 06-07 Monte SS's are not capable of getting what they are rated! That's why I bought an LTZ.

 

 

No, I honestly am very glad I didn't get the V8 especially now that gas is over $3/gallon.

 

Get an exhaust cutout.. have the flowmaster and larger diameter pipe on one side for performance/sound. Then when you're on the highway go back to a stock muffler for the better backpressure, torque, and so you don't notice the DOD sound as much.

 

it only saves "up to 7% gas mileage" and thats on highway trips. geeze, gotta love a good V8. course my V6 don't get what I think it should either.

 

I can beleive some V8 owners are only seeing 15 MPG or so,but there are many factors that will affect this.How often do they "stomp it" for one.Do they sit in stop and go traffic regularly? What air pressure do they run in their tires? Are they using cheap,low octane gas? How many miles are on their car?My last tank on my 06 with the V8 got 21.5 MPG.This was for an average week of mixed driving running 93 octane fuel.I never broke 18 MPG doing the same driving until it passed 10000 miles.I really think it took that long to fully break in.

 

I'm from Canada, and my 07 SS, was brand new, when we took our annual trip to Florida last February. I mean, she had about 200 miles on her when we left. The computer readouts in my car can be set to Imperial, or metric units, so when I cross the border, I set them to Imperial (MPH).

On our trip, the computer registered 28+ MPG AVG. Now our Canadian gallon is about 20% bigger than the US gallon, so, if the computer actually compensates for the volume differences, which I don't know if it does or not,that would mean I was getting about 22.4 MPG as measured by the US gallon. Not bad in my opinion for all that power.

I know, everyone will say "don't trust the computer readout" but, total fuel usage bears out the numbers pretty well.

My 04 Supercharged SS, on exactly the same trip, would show only about 30MPG AVG. I was expecting a lot worse fuel mileage with the V8 than has been the case so far.

 

I love to "stomp it" with my V8 and I am getting and average of 21 mpg so I dont know what you are doing.
