I know Im a little late on this convo but the following things will be present if it is a true pace car:
-The gauge panel will say Limited edition
-You will have the badge on the trunk that says limited edition pace car
-High sport package
- pace car striping that fades.... not solid silver like imitation sets
-multi colored seats with the bowtie in the headrests
-Pace car emblem in the dash on passenger side
-most importantly.... the taz will be located underneath the monte carlo emblem on the sides
The last thing is that they were year oriented so if your color doesnt match the years stated before... not a pace car. There have been many attempts at recreating a pace car, but its very hard to get a taz behind the emblem like it came from factory... almost a dead give away every time!

Looks like no activity in this thread for awhile, but think it has answered my question as to why the gauge cluster in my '03 says "Limited Edition". I'm thinking it is because of the sport package previously mentioned. I ran my VIN and came up with these RPO codes:
1SC PACKAGE-OPTION 03 (1SC)
FE3 SUSPENSION SYSTEM,SPORT SPORT SUSP(FE3)
BYP SPORT EQUIPMENT PACKAGE SPORT PKG(BYP)
There are 1 2003 MONTE CARLO SS vehicles (0.003%) matching your exact options list. There are 65 (0.163%) with at least as many options.
It also has the lower moldings and rear spoiler. Pics to follow (in a different thread) after I make a few more posts.

i like that link i was able to research my car just a little more..
so this means out of 31,977 mine is somehow completely original from every one of them.
