5th Gen ('95-'99): Killer Doors
I have to ask this, does any other 5 gen owner have an issue with their door? If you're even on a slight hill they turn deadly, and will not stay open whatsoever. I really wonder, how much does a door for a 5th gen weigh? I don't have such a problem with my 04.
Keane:
Its a non issue with mine..
But Everytime I get the oil changed they have also lubed the hinges springs etc. But I do know these doors are pretty heavy considering there fairly large. Which is also why I chose to buy a 5th gen Monte...Its so much easier for me to enter and exit the vehicle because of the doors and openings.

I know on my old 2 door grand am, the door "stops" (as I call it, where you open the door and at certain openings it kinda has a stop point) was controlled by an item GM calls a "door detent". It was easy to replace on the Grand Am (as it got worn to the point the door just flung open or closed).
That might be the issue on your Monte....

It's possible your spring & detent isn't working correctly. Does it look loose or anything in there?
I've actually never really paid any attention to whether or not the stops are working correctly, i'll have to try and take a look next time I use it. But if you're on a hill, it takes a bit of muscle to get out or not get you leg chopped off
