Default Key getting stuck in ignition

Hey guys, I started having a problem recently with my car, that I believe started when I accidentally spilled coke on the center console(cup holders are pretty terrible). At first, the shifter got locked in park and I had to use the shift override button to move it. My Dad and I took the console out and saw a severed wire, so we put it together and it started working again, only with a new problem: My key gets stuck in the ignition and I can't remove it without the key lock override. We thought at this point that it was the shift lock solenoid getting shorted out due to the coke, so we went and got an entirely new shifter with solenoid and got it installed, and the problem persists.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

probably the wiring going to the shifter still. just had to redo the whole pigtail. That fixed it, working great again.

If you bought the assy used...
Its quite possible that solenoid may also be bad?
Just a thought...

It's possible I suppose, my Dad said he checked them good before he put the console back on again though.

That's what we thought at first too, so we bought a new one and even with it installed it's still doing the same thing. It's driving me crazy.

We touched a black wire that was severed and then the shifting started working, but thats when the key wouldn't come out. I don't know if it could happen, but maybe the wire touch shorted something out that goes to the ignition cylinder or whatever holds the key?

try blowing out the ignition with stop air... if u have a heavy key chain and pulling the key in and out on the dash can leave metal shavings in the tumbler and it wont release or the keys wont go into it
