Inherited - 1986 Monte Carlo LS - Mint - 48100 Original Miles
I know it's not the coveted SS model, but beggers can't be choosers. I've been given a near perfect, garage kept, 1986 Monte Carlo LS. I don't know what the color is called off-hand, but it's mint green color.
This is a one owner (I'll be the 2nd), garage kept, babied, near perfect car. 48,100 original miles. In 2005 the stickers weren't even put on the plates due to the owner's illness. Everything inside and out is stock and near perfect. The A/C is cold and recently converted to the new system. I think you get the point. There's not too many 20 year old cars out there like this. It's one of those cars you hear about every once in while and can't believe it.
I have the original window sticker and manual. The 350 V-8 option on the car was $360.00 and was purchased. Cruise control, rear window defogger, and other options. No chassis rust due to annual "oiling". I don't have it in front of me, but the car sticker price was just over $13,000. The original title (have a copy) shows 3 miles.
MY QUESTION(S)...if you were given this car, what would you do with it? Modifications, etc or just leave it stock and let it be. Would you basically park it for a few years and show it occasionally?
And, if you were to sell it what would you ask....or if you were to buy it, what would you pay?
We're not sure what we want to do with it yet. It was really given to my kids, but I may want to buy it from them or buy them something else.
I'm not looking for offers...just advice. Please help a newbie out.

If it is in that good shape, I would certainly leave it stock, give it a good wax job, maybe consider getting it rust proofed to preserve it even more and make it a sunday driver/cruise night show car!

Thanks Jason, that's kind of the way I'm leaning. The kids that it was given to don't appreciate what they've been given. They want to sell it and if they don't they'll probably run it into the ground.
Can a car like the one I described be fairly priced by Kelly Blue Book? I don't want to cheat the kids. Sounds kind of weird so I should mention they're my step-kids and I wasn't related to the people that gave the car to them.
Any advice you feel comfortable providing would be great.

The car your talking about probably is not worth much YET in the blue book. But to a monte carlo collector or an enthisiast it might be worth something definitely. Cant tell you what to do, but of the car is in that great shape I woudl certainly hang on to it and make it into a classic one day. I hate seeing classic cars getting run into the ground. Remember, dont crush em, preserve em!
