Impala paint project
#72
Well this post started in November and I am happy to say it is coming to a close
He painted it Sunday but had power outage issues and didn't quite turn out as we had hoped. Nothing a wet sand and buff won't fix. Planned on that anyways to get the extra shine and slickness. All that has been buffed is the very rear of the quarter panel. Nothing is even cleaned up yet so bear with me. It will likely be completely done by Thursday or so. Lots of parts to re-install and of course the buff. Should look really nice when finished. Only problem is the hood has a bobble but I think we will have to wait a couple months and see what it looks like. As I said that was the crappiest Duraflex hood ever. So thin... Tired of working on it and told him just to paint it.

Looking good, can't wait to see it all done... I see its been a tough go at it... As you said though, friendship isn't worth getting on him, I've been there before when I did a friends car....I didn't want to rush things either, had so many other things going on, told hm it would take a couple months with all I had to do (tons of body work , it was a 66 Chevelle with rusted out quarters). Then when I was all finished, he wanted the car before it cured correctly and spilled gas all over the back trunk and ruined it, had to do it all over again..... And I didn't charge him ANYTHING... Just cost of materials and paint !... Good luck, hang in there...looking good....

As most of you know, I picked the car up unfinished. Tired of the BS. Anyways I got it all put back together today and started the buffing process. Wet Sanding it smooth with 1200 and buffing. A lot of the car has some significant orange peel but it is coming out slick. The first picture shows the lack of shine. The second is the rear quarter which we have almost finished. and the third shows one side of the hood done. It has nice metallic in it. Its the same color as my Challenger was. We are hoping to get it all buffed and cleaned tomorrow. I am going to start sanding about 9 in the morning and my brother is coming over to do the buffing. The seats are looking better but not up to par. Also messed up the front of the dash. My plan is to remove it and paint it metallic black to match the car and all the window and lock bezels too. Should look nice.
