If I disconnect the factory radio...

I bought an XMDirect tuner to make use of the XM radio ready factory headunit and it is plug and play. However to install it requires that I disconnect the 2 plugs from the back. My buddy told me that I will have to have a code or some sort of reprogramming at the dealership once I plug everything back in. Is this true?
