i did it.....
I replaced my stock tires, Eagle RS-A's, a couple weeks ago. They had 55k on them and I didn't really like them either. I got new Goodyear Assurance TripleTred's and they are so much better. Feels like a whole new car, better handling, better turning, better traction, and a smoother ride. I would definately recommend them.
Since your hood needs replaced you should get one of the performance hoods

Agreed on replacing the hood with an aftermarket hood, especially if its going to be your nickel. Used hoods are plentiful for about $150 tho.
The factory tires are like most everything else, made by the lowest bidder! CHEAP tires! I replaced mine at 25K miles. Goodyear Triple Treds are good all season tires, but I went with winter tires, Goodyear Ultra Grips.

My 2004 Supercharged Monte came from the factory with "W" rated, Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires. They're an okay tire for dry roads, but that's it. I found that the car overpowered the grip of the tire WAY too easily. And they suck in snow. Got stuck in my own driveway last winter.
I went with a good set of Toyo's.
Can't afford it this year, but next year I think I'm going to get a set of rims just for winter. Put some REAL snow tires on for winter, and save my Junior rims from winter's wrath.
