Yes it's the gas cap, you can purchase a new one at any gm dealer as I think they all keep them on hand as they are a common problem.

This is the 3rd cap I've had over the life of the car. First one, the emissions people switched it out saying there was a leak, even though I got no codes. Then that cap stopped locking. Now this one. A pretty minor inconvenience, but an inconvenience nonetheless.

215k Miles on a 98' LS

Problems at the moment. Ummm....

Side Markers don't work (Sockets corroded bad.)
Sunroof motor gear is stripped, so that is non'functional
Strut towers in the back are rusted through
Engine was replaced once in its life, unknown mileage
A bit of a rough idle (No trouble codes found)
Security System Bypassed (Not a problem, actually I would say it is a plus)
Center storage cubby lid broken (Who's dumb Idea was to make the hinge plastic?)
Seatbelt light wiring has a short, so most of the time the light is off when the seatbelt is undone.
Service engine soon light is burnt out. (But not codes pulled from ECU)
Chipped windshield
Driver seatback broken (sits up, but is crooked)
Fogged up headlights
Rear Fender Rust
Shot struts (Haven't been able to afford new ones yet)
Bad inner tierod
Sometimes shifts a little rough into 2nd.

My Monte is the 3.8 N/A and I'm having problems. I just changed the oil and haven't driven it yet. I looked in the oil filler just to see how much oil got on the valve springs, and it looks like there is a lot of antifreeze in my fresh oil. What do I do?

Hello
I have a 2006 with 77771 miles on it so far a water pump. Had a 01 3.8 got this 06 not use to the 4 to 8 cylinder thing but has plenty of power. Tranny is starting to feel a little hinky slips how common is rebuilding the tranny in a 06?

Runner 90 sounds like a head gasket or the engine over heated and warped a head

Runner 90 I agree with boggie that something happened to the motor getting overheated and a head warped, head gasket failed, and maybe an internal block crack somewhere allowing coolant into the oil. Good luck with it.

2004 Monte Carlo LS
114,400 miles

The only things that went bad so far are the resonator, front passenger side hub assembly, and currently I got a P0135 code which is either an 02 sensor or the catalytic converter that needs to be replaced. Other than those three things this car has been very reliable!
