Ok heres the deal. I was going to school today and noticed it didn't feel like I had full power. I didn't really think anything of it though. On the way home today, about half way home, I noticed my car was bogging down like crazy past about 2000 RPMs. I pushed the pedal down further but all I could hear was the engine getting a little louder and no downshift in the tranny like it should have. Its like the tranny is holding the engine back and won't shift or something. However once I get going it will shift but it takes forever to get up to speed. I don't think its the engine because when I put in in neutral, it revs fine just like always.

Help, this sounds bad and I think something major is broke or about to break.

 

Have you tried to manually shift it yet by putting it into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Drive than OverDrive? See if that does anything.

 

Well problem fixed. It was a clogged catylitic converter that was causing all the problems. That makes sense know because the last few weeks I have noticed I have been getting horrible gas mileage. That was probably due to the clogged cat.

Ironically, I found out that part on my car is warrantied until 80,000 miles so they changed it out with a new one for free. I'm guessing that would have been a pretty expensive part if the dealer hadn't paid for it.

 

Federal law requires cats to be warrantied for 8 years/80,000 miles.

On some GM cars (I forgot which years and models, but it included my SS), they extended the warranty because they were having problems. I got a letter in the mail about it and sure enough, mine went bad at 55K.
