Default Headlight Story

So i thought i'd share a little story with you all. I have a set of blacked out head lights i bought from carid in 2013. They've slowly deteriorated over time since i got them, peeling and going hazy. But recently my right high beam went out and for months my left low beam would quit working. So i figured i'd just throw 4 new bulbs in and move on.

Oh was i wrong, i took the high beam bulb out and made quite the discovery, the wire that connects to the bulb was melted and burnt up which is why the bulb went out. It smelled terrible and had i not discovered it, probably could have burned my car down. The low beam was the same deal, wires were melting and deteriorating but not as bad. I emailed carid with images, i know its been over 2 years since i bought them, but i'm curious to see if they have anything to say and i will update this thread if they do.

For now i'm back to my old factory headlights (always save stock parts when you mod) Heres pics of the wires.

High beam, flat out didn't work anymore.

Low beam, would occasionally go out, usually comes back on with a smack.

I am glad you caught that. Is it possible you were not using the stock bulb with the CarId light? I do not know how the bulbs are coded these days but if you were using a higher wattage bulb (burning brighter and hotter) then you may have been pulling more amps than the stock wiring circuit can handle. The wire will then overheat. A loose connection at the connector could cause the same affect. I would replace the wire and connector.

When i bought the lights, they came with bulbs and that's what has been in there all along. Never had HID's or any other high drawing bulb.

That is an interesting find! I wonder if those bulbs demanded more power over heating the wiring.
The wires/connectors that are damaged in your pics, are they part of the aftermarket headlights or part of the factory car wiring (I'm guilty of not recalling how our headlights are wired lol)?
If it's part of the car wiring, I would be very "irritated".

Regardless, even though it's been two years, given what you found, I hope CarID can offer something. I know some aftermarket lights (OEM and otherwise) offer lifetime warranty.

The bulbs came with the lights when i got them, so i'd assume they require normal power. And the wiring pictured is thankfully part of the light assembly, factory wiring of the car is fine. And as of this morning, no reply from carid, i get the feeling they're just going to ignore me.

Update, sent the carid account here on the forum a message as well. No email response from carid, no pm response either. At this point i would just like to be acknowledged, even if nothing can be done. But i guess they're just going to ignore me, great customer service. Sent one more email.

Finally got an email response. They're looking for my order number, not sure i can find that since it's been two years. I'll check around when i get home and see if i can find anything and see where things go.

Final update. After some emailing about order numbers, i got them the correct information only for them to tell me its been too long and there is nothing they can do. So now i've got a pair of useless headlights.
