Default Headlight problem

My monte has delevoped ANOTHER problem. This time is when its dark my headlights work when they want to. For instance tonight I started her up after sitting for a couple of hours and the headlights were on and worked fine until I left my cousin's house and started her up and only the orange lights. (Drove home with fog lights) I know its not the bulbs because I pulled the plug from the fog lights and plugged them into the headlights and they worked fine so this has to be an electrical problem but i dont know where to start... Anyone ever have a problem like this before or can share some insight on my problem??? Thanks in advance.

I know this is an old thead but the problem still exists. All the fuses are fine, I even sanded and cleaned the ground by the drivers side headlight and nothing. I did change out the multifunction switch with a new one when my blinkers stopped working but the problem still exists. I do have a multimeter but I dont know how to use it or which wire is for what lol. Since this problem started I have just brushed it to the side just using the fog light plug in the headlight but im ready to tackle this problem and move on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I did some reseach and this is kinda a common problem.

there's the ambient light sensor on the front of the dash, that's either probably going bad or there's dust build up inside or outside of the housing, that's what reads whether it's light or dark out

Well the outside of it is always clean but I doubt thats the problem. My lights still automatically come on in the day time but at night only the ambers are lit.
