Grand Prix, trying to trash talk the monte
#11
So this weekend, was cruising with a buddy. Took off pretty quickly from a light, and settled in at the speed limit @ 45. Pretty quick a Grand Prix fly's by me at probably 65 with like 5 guys in it hanging out the windows and such. We stopped at the next light, and they started talking crap. I was like really, in a grand prix? I'm uncertain the year, but know it wasn't a gtp or anything like that..and the passenger said like you have much better, and then asked me how much hp I had or if I even knew, I replied 340 guessing its around there with cai and resonator delete and new mufflers. He then said that's not much higher than 295.
I laughed and said whatever (thinking this number was high, but not knowing for certain), then the light changed and they turned. Got a pretty good chuckle out of the whole thing, especially after my curiosity got the best of me and I looked up the hp on gp's. All of the 6th generations at best put out 240hp, and that was gtp's. The SE models ran 175 and the gt @ 200.
Anyways, thought the whole situation was rather comical, and now I know, and will definitely laugh if anyone tries to say they are even close to a monte, especially in a stock grand prix. Should have asked him to race and then see how he felt about that 295

you do realize that the 3800 can be modified pretty easily, a topswapped gt on e85 with headers intake catback rockers and a pulley is more than enough to take a mildly modified ls4, monte's weigh a lot more than the prix's, which is why you don't see an 8 second 2000-2007 monte carlo... yet

Anyways, I digress..easy enough to tell that it was a v6 non modded car, and I don't dislike or want to bash on gp's themselves, more so the situation and the fact that he thought he knew everything and was far from the case.

If you compare two GM cars, same year, same drive train, but GM published one with higher numbers then the other, you have to ask "why". Sure, in some cases one body would lend itself to something the other did not (example, the early 80's L69 305 H.O. is noted as performing BEST in a Camaro body because of where the intake scoops could be placed, right at where the hood met the nose and it had DUAL intake scoops, the Monte, the Firebird, the Caprice did not have that advantage with the same drive train, granted, after market or some light home fabrication and people might be able to out do it, but it may come with sacrifice like replacing the high beam bulb with an air intake scoop).
