Yeah, Catholic school didn't work well for me. Got pulled out of my 1st grade year and put in public. Dad caught the principal about to whip me with a pointer and that wasn't going to fly.

In the 60's and 70's, getting whipped by Sister Mary Hurtalot was normal.

I dont know where Cowboy got his info about $60.00 an hour.
I have a friend that works at GM and they are making just above $28.00 buck an hour
They are pretty even with Ford as well.
I have good friend here at work (UPS) he retires at the end of Oct. He will be pulling in more money after
he retires then what he makes right now per week.
I am in the Union. do I believe in them.....

I refuse to join the union where I work. All they do is prevent the company from firing scumbags that deserve to be fired, so we have a **** ton of useless idiots walking around all day. And then they act like every little benefit we have is thanks to them. I do good work and show up every day, I don't need the union, I can fend for myself.

Hi Tom, my grandfather agree's 100% with your post, and he
thinks the country is going to suffer because of the strike.
He said some guy named Jimmy Hoffa was a major player
in the unions of the past that was controlled by organized crime.
He is going to give me a book on Jimmy Hoffa for a class
book report I have to do.
Thanks `Tom, for your post.... I can fend for myself.
That's the way my grandfather taught me.

Yeah, Cowboy got some bad information somewhere. I worked as a cop for 25-years in a city that's next-door to the Ford assembly plant in Kansas City, and got to know lots of the workers. One guy, whoI got to know pretty well, had been with Ford almost exactly the same amount time that I had been with the city. When I retired as a lieutenant in 2005, I was earningaabout$30 per hour (although Ididn't get paid by the hour, except on overtime). At the time, my Ford bud was paid the same hourly rate ($30 and change). Where he made the big-bucks wasworking overtime (offered frequently), which was often paid at double-time and greater. In 2004, he grossed a little over $100K.

I retired at age 53, so I'm too young to sit around and do nothing but fish. So, Inow work at a casino in Kansas City. The place is huge, and has about 2,000 employees. A young manI worked with was hired by Fordearlier this summer, and works at the K.C. assembly plant. His starting rate was $21 per hour. Initially, he is not a member of the union, and has to work fairly-lengthy"probationary" period (can't rememberexactly how long). If he makes it through, he then becomes a union member, and his hourly rate gets a substantial boost - I believe he said $27 per hour, but don't quote me on that (I do know it was $20-something). After that, raises are pretty flat, based on whatever their contract calls for.

Here's an interesting article relating to this topic: http://www.aftermarketnews.com/defau...t&id=80833

Here's some info directly from the UAW's website regarding wages: http://www.uaw.org/barg/07fact/fact02.php

Am I pro UAW? Absolutely not. In fact, I think the UAW played a significant role in the downfall of GM and Ford...although the execsmust certainly share the blame.

Hi `Gale,
Sounds like you had a very interesting career.
I think it's a very dangerous career in today's world : (
So many seem to have lost all respect for authority : (
Thanks for your post, & information : ) Sounds a lot more realistic. I was crying making only $10 an hour [X(], and
would quite school, & get a job in a auto plant `if they were
paying $60 an hour. (I think ?).
Maybe Cowboy was including the cost to the company
for benny's/health etc ?
I sure wish I could afford health insurance [X(]
I have 3 p/t jobs, & no benny's....The college has a program
for health insurance, but it's still to high for my budget.
Gale, thanks for your post & article.
I really hope that GM settle's soon with the Union. It affects
so many other's that are associated with the auto companies.
Where's our President ? What's he doing ?
Peace/Happiness,
`Space

Where's our president? What is he doing? I've been a Libertarian since 1996 (former Republican), so my hope is that he's minding his own business, and tending to his duties within the confines of the Constitution of the United States. I know that's WAY too much to hope for, but Ican still dream.

The police biz isn't as dangerous as everyone thinks (just like autoworkers don't make as much money as everyone believes), but has gotten more so in the last year.

I love the insult email my job just put out regarding the average wage. They said we make the same as the average person does in the city but WTF is that?

How about comparing my job to what the average person make IN MY FIELD.
