glove box light
Just an interesting comparison.......as owners of 2006(and probably 2007) Monte Carlos probably noticed, there is no longer a glove box light. My 2000 SS had one, heck,I even had a 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury years ago and it had one.My wife just took delivery of a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica last week (I know this is a Chevrolet forum but......)and it doesn't have a glove box light either. The 2005 Pacifica she traded in had one though. The automakers must be copying this little cost cutting measure. Also, does anyone know why a power passenger side seat is no longer available?Might it have something to do with the airbag passenger weight sensor? One final question, what is it about red jewel tintcoat paint that makes it extra cost??

RE: glove box light
Yea they are probably doing it to cut costs. I'm not sure about the power seat as I have seen other cars that have a power passenger seat still have the sensor in it to detect a passenger sitting in the seat. As for the paint, I've noticed domestic car companies are now charging extra for certain paints. This is something foreign auto makers and high end makers have done for years. It's just a way, I'm sure, to recoup some expense of making the higher priced paints.

Ah, who needs a glove box light anyways. No one needs to see in there at night.
We're all too busy with our MP3 players, cells, ipods, text messaging, and video players to be bothered with the contents of the glove box.

As always, cost cutting is probably the big reason. Why does the Imapla have an 8 way power seat and the Monte 6 way. If I'm not mistaken the power seats in the Impala, include a power passenger seat. Why are the headrests on the Impala SS embroidered and not in the Monte. Hey multiply the savings of these items by the #cars sold and.....you know the rest.
I talked to a customer of mine that runs a body shop, and apparently the "Red Jewel" paint does require some exotic items in order to get the shade. He also said that it would be very hard to get a real good match, if any partial painting on the car was required. Apparently very similar to the "Pearl" paints used a lot on Caddy's and such.

You know...... since the Monte and Impala were on the same platform and they're just about the same in price it doesn't make a lot of sense does it?
