Default Fried ECM?

I'm about to sell my 1997 GTP and ive been lookin at other cars to try and flip. I found a 2001 Monte Carlo SS on craigslist. The poster says that the ECM is fried but the body and engine are in perfect condition. Car hasnt started in 6 months. Now IF the ECM is the actual problem, would i be able to pull the ecm out of my 2003 SS and hook it up in the 01 wihtout any changes to the program? Also if that does work and they're ECM is really fried is there a chance it will kill mine?

I assume they mean the PCM?

And you can't just drop one in unless it's programmed with the cars VIN

Yeah my bad PCM, Are they any other tell tale signs of a bad one? Id rather not have it towed here just to find out its gonna be a fortune to fix.

IDK why the PCM would fry unless they were trying things with superchips that you can buy on ebay
