Default factory recall on 2003 monte ss

i received a post card that there is a recall on the 2003 ss. it says "09047 engine comparment fire."


does anyone know about this?

This kind of sounds like an old recall. There was a post about it on here. I'll have to see if I can find it.

1998-1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue
1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix
Equipped with 3.8L V6 Naturally Aspirated Engine (RPO L36 - VIN K)

Supercede:
The Service Procedure in this bulletin has been revised. Technicians should review the revised service procedure immediately.Please discard all copies of bulletin 09047, issued April 2009.

Condition

General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 1997-2003 model year Buick Regal and Pontiac Grand Prix, 1998-1999 model year Chevrolet Lumina and Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1998-2003 model year Chevrolet Monte Carlo, and 2000-2003 model year Chevrolet Impala model vehicles, equipped with a 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine (RPO L36 - VIN K). Some of these vehicles have a condition in which drops of engine oil may be deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking. In rare cases, if this condition occurs, and if a hot surface ignition source were present, an engine compartment fire could occur.

Correction

Dealers are to remove the 1-3-5 spark plug wire retention channel at the front of engine and replace it with new retainers.

thanks!! i just got the car and didnt know it was an old issue. pisses me off that the owner neglected to get it fixed.

If the recall was never done on your car, you shouldn't be charged for the work. Just an inconvenience of your time.

yes, the dealer is a few towns over but it seems like a simple fix, just redirecting the wires. thought it might have resolved my other problems but no such luck.

Yeah, wow that's an old recall. I had that taken care of on my 03 back when I had that car. Wasn't charged anything. The work took maybe 20-30 minutes and they didn't even pull the car into the shop to do the work, just up to the door. The spark plug wire channel they replace (with two retaining clips) is accessible from above.
