Default Factory Radio - Dealer program ???

My first post...
I have been finding everything I was looking to know about, but this one.
So thanks to all posters for the great info.

I have an 02 MC SS, the radio is an aftermarket radio. I like to keep my cars as close to OEM parts as possible, other than some mods.

I have an OEM radio on its way and the part number matches with the original radio that was in it. I got the part number from the dealer from my Vin #.

So on to my question (hope that was not over kill on info).
Do I have to take it down to the dealer to program the radio? Or is there an unlock code that I can do myself? Since the radio has the same part # do I have to do this at all? Or is it programed by the Vin. # of the car internally in the radio?

Thanks for any help and info you can give me on this.

I believe you'll have to take the car to the dealer to program it using a Tech-II tool

OK thanks that is what I had thought. Was hoping that I did not have to do that.
