Default Exhaust Shop Refused To Do My U-Bend

With a "Don't be silly" and a "Get the hell out of here" ... the Exhaust Shop guy told me I was crazy and getting ready to do more harm than good when I asked for an estimate to to the U-Bend Delete.

I told them I was looking to add the additional power I'd get if the pipe was straight-through and not bent and he laughed at me any told me that the notion was silly ... just as much exhaust passes through the slight bend as would if it were straight because the U-Bend is beyond the converter which restricts the flow ... not the U-Bend.

I told him I had researched the issue and a great number of Monte Carlo Owners recommended it and I'd like to have it done.

He told me to come back some time when it wasn't so busy and they'd put the car up on the lift and show me the U-Bend and the Pipe needed to delete it and that they are the same diameter.

No dice.

I had a simalar experience the guy looked at me like i was crazy and started to go off about the computer problems....I then told him it was a highly recomended upgrade and it was all over the net in all types of forums related to these cars... and no joke the guy looked at me and said "I don't even know how to turn the computer on" upon leaving I said obviously this is not the place to take a nice car for any kinda of service... he quickly pleaded for me to come back when the owner was there, so i thought ok this place was refered by an accaintaince so i went back to ask him and he gave me a blank stare and told me to order the full kit online and he would put it on..lol so needless to say I may have to go to the big city to get the work done

Yeah! My thoughts exactly!

I don't care if you asked them to install a copper water pipe for your exhaust. Ifthe legalities of having a cat and muffler are covered, why the heckdo they care?

Maybe I should buy the piece online and take THAT in to have installed. Seems like that would be a beter idea than having him try to make it on-the-fly. I don't think I was prepared enough and rushed-in to something I should have been more prepared to deal with. I have a feeling that If I show up with the piece and its already got the threaded part for the O-2 Sensor I'll probably have better luck.

I have a feeling that they were too backed-up for a Saturday, in the Winter, when everybodies old exhaust systems need to be replaced and they are having trouble getting the jobs done.

It's OK ... eventually I'll find a place with somebody who knows what I'm talking about and will be willing to do it.
Does it involve taking the whole system down ... or, do they just cut the bend out of there??

Find another exhaust shop!!!!

Quite a few members on 2kMC said they've done the U-bend delete on their Montes with no adverse affects.

Twisted_Metal,
None of the '06/07 Montes got the U-bend pipe that I'm aware of?

BS, move to LA, we have no less than 49,000 muffler shops.

I ended up educating my muffler shop when I did mine as well.

For those of you that get the U-Bend and high flow cat from ZZP or anywhere else make sure you get the emulator too. Don't give the emulator to the muffler guy you'll just get the "It's illegal speach" and your better off just doing it yourself.
