Exclamation Easy and Cheap Performance

Hello,
I currently own a 2000 Monte Carlo LS with the 3400 in it. I am trying to do some relatively easy and not too expensive performance upgrades and am needing some help. Taking any and all suggestions thank you very much.

How much money do you have to spend? I'd go with an intake and a tune, then not much else. Lest ye go turbo.

I know cheap isn’t exactly a good word because they’re never very cheap XD. But it’s more of what people think would be quick easy ways to increase the performance without too much money being spent

If youre not gonna go local and get a "real" tune.. I personally have always used MilzyMotorsports.. Ive ordered so much stuff from the guy and I have nothing but good things to say about him and his products..

If theres any issue what so ever, hell personally call you to sort it out and he makes sure whatever you buy is exactly what you want..

Ive purchased 2 PCM for 3400 engines and 2 for L67 engines and theyve all been top of the line quality..

Be aware tho, the changing of shift points means your car will shift at 6000 rpm.. I have always told him to keep it at 5900 just because..

The problem with the word cheap is everyone has a different definition of what that means. It's easier to help if you quantify how much you're looking to spend and also how much of a gain you're looking for. A budget of a couple hundred vs a couple thousand makes a big difference in what you can get.

The downside with these engines is there aren't a lot of great 'bang for the buck' mods on the very low price end (couple hundred bucks or less). Sure you can get an intake or a new muffler, etc etc, but the power gain will also be near nothing to match.

Some people aren't only concerned with power though, and intake and muffler make the car sound much different, so for some people thats exactly what they're looking for- a notably different experience when driving the car.

I would say around $1000 for my max and I do agree ive been looking around and there isnt much that can come out of it. Im also trying to make it sound a little deeper I know its easy for a V6 to sound like a fart cannon but thats not what I am looking for. If anyone could help me with that as well it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for everyones responses have been very helpful and very interesting. Ive only just recently came onto this site and ive learned more than i have in the 2 years ive had my vehicle so again, thank you to everybody.

Sound can be just a good exhaust (many people can share info on that).

As for mods, the thread I shared earlier covers a lot of you common/basic options. But again, all depends on you budget and end-game for the car. $1000 can get you some fun goodies.
