whether its a 383 or a 350 the numbers seem low. the first thing to do would be to check your blocks numbers, and make sure its not a 305. the 383 to my knowledge can be internally, or externally balanced now a days so i dont think you can really tell by the balancer anymore. next i would check those head numbers. once established what motor you have its time to step up to a decent set of heads, and a little bigger carb. once the heads are off youre going to know what youre dealing with. it would suck if you opened it up, and it had dished pistons in it. then i would go under the assumption the person you bought it off of just lied, and just stabbed a cam in it, and called it a day. if its got flat tops in it youll be in better shape when you get a pair of heads for it. a pair of heads can make a huge difference to an over cammed car with factory heads on it. then dyno it again.

I plan on doing intake and carb for now, and getting a good tune into it. I will wait till I can afford aluminum heads then I will rebuild it and see what is has.
Mike, I guess you win.
Space, that car is slow haha.

aluminum heads are nice if you have the money, but honestly iron heads are affordable, and where the powers at. to keep prices reasonable thats the way id go. a set of iron eagles or sportsman IIs. what intake and carb are you running on it as we speak? iron, or aluminum? vacuum secondary, or mechanical? im surprised your timing was so high. i would have figured that you would have taken a timing light to it the second you got it, and played with the carb a little.

vortecs are good, but i dont think theyre worth it. at least theyre not worth it if youre buying them from a junkyard, and then having them machined for screw in studs and guide plates (which i would want if im drag racing the car). not to mention i didnt think the cae in big valve versions. i know scoggin dickey sells them ready to rock but at the price there like a hundo cheaper than a better performance head.

Power is Expensive 2 get ~> 2 keep
We can never seem to have enough power in our life or in our rides.
I sure hope you find the time + $'s to do what you want 2 `do 2 your ride(s) Good Luck
