Drivers door will not close

Drivers door will not close
Looking for some help here. I have a 97 MC that the drivers door latch seems to not be locking. The door will not stay closed. Everytime I shut it it opens right back up. I do know about the lock flipping and that is ok just seems to not lock. Any clues????????

Any idea when the last time the latching mechanism part of latch was lubricated?
They do need occassional maintenence.
Try spraying the mechanism with something like WD-40. Then try latching the door.
It may take a few sprays with the lubricant if things are really dry?
