Wait so my00monte, you decided to do the top swap yourself or have someone els/shop do it? And i was planning on doing the top swap and had all the money ready when reality of having a car hit. It needed repairs on a problem that popped up. 860$ later. Might want to have some back up money.

KR is not Knock Reduction, but Knock Retard. The PCM measures KR with a knock sensor, which is kind of like a microphone that detects whether or not there is pre-detonation in the combustion chamber. If the sensor detects any "knock" it will inform the PCM of how many degrees of knock there is and will pull the timing ("Retard") in order to protect the engine. The goal with any engine (especially boosted engines), is to have 0* KR. If you want to monitor KR, the easiest way to do so is to buy an Aeroforce Scan Gauge (I highly recommend getting one).

Next, I don't really consider a d/p a cheaper alternative because you're not getting near as much product for the money. A d/p is what, $110? A set of headers can be had as little as $200 on eBay. I recommend Speed Daddy's, TOG's, or ZZP for headers.

As far as some KR reduction mods, fortunately most mods that gain hp will help reduce KR. I recommend you look here: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/en...-bumpin-24896/

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

As well as getting all the parts you'll need for the install (once you figure out which way you're going with your build) and you have install the top swap, get your PCM tuned. That should be the very last step (No more modding? yeah right, lol) after you have install everything, performance wise, into the engine. You could also buy a tuner, a used one from clugp or a new one from HP Tuner ($650 for the one with the data logger). They are a PITA to learn but worth it in the end if you plan on doing more modding in the future.

x2 on headers

Any little mods like that that you can do before the top swap will help you be KR free from the start- you'll make more power and last longer!

So what I've gathered is... Get the headers first (from speed daddy?), then the top swap, then an aeroforce scan guage, then tune the PCM?

PCM is part of the top swap.

Aeroforce gauge should go in at the same time to monitor your KR, because if you have KR you shouldn't drive your top swapped car.

Okay. So I should get the top swap, pcm, and aeroforce guage put in all at the same time?

Will these headers fit my 2000 SS? http://item.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId...le=Description
