Hey guys, I was just thinking how the 78 and the 85-88 Monte SS were my two favorite Montes. I'm must wondering what you guys liked better about each, and which you think is the better vehicle regaurding power, comfort, handling. I'm in the market still for a monte and I'm not sure which way to steer just yet.

realisticially the 3rd gens and 4th gens are the same with diff body panels i'm not sure of the engine choices in the 3rd gen, but frame wise they are identicl, so handling will be the same there is a ton of aftermarket to i'm prove handling, the 4TH gen ss's came with the f41 package that was a quick ration steering gear box, and bars that conect under the engine up to the front rails, there may even be more i'm not sure

Thanks budsjim. Which stow do you like more? I've always loved how the 4th gen looks like it's going 100 mph when it's just parked but I also love the 3rd gen style. I'm not sure which way to go when I finally find one.

I love the look of the 4th gen. I'm just not sure which would be more practical for a daily. I was think 4th gen because parts might be more readily available. I love both generations I don't know which one to continue my search for.

Parts are easier to get for the 4th gens. But the 3rd gens are just as nice or easy to DD. There older cars so you'll aways have maintence issues unless you do a complete rebuild. But my opinion would be pick to car you like.

I have a 78 and I plan on getting an 86 or 87 MCSS.

I know what you mean about the maintenance issues with the 78's. I feel like thing by thing will just keep going and going one at a time. Replace one and then onto the next. I've always really had my heart set on 86-88 SS. I love all montes though. It's so hard to choose. Although Im not a huge fan of the newer ones design.

I always loved the 4th gen and am a bit bias towards them obviously since i own and am doing a frame off on one

and i never was a huge fan of the exaggerated body line and the bar style tail lights on the third gen

I completely hear you on the exaggerated body lines on the third gens. And the tail lights look alot better on the Grand nationals ;] but the lines on the third gen's is kind of like "HEY I'M A MONTE CARLO LOOK!!! REALLY LOOK! AND AGAIN! AND AGAIN ON THE REAR QUARTERS!" lol.
