Some of the "non-*****-free" forums & e-mail lists forbid oil or tire threads because everyone thinks they "know best."

What is best is what is best for YOU!

I change my own oil and filter. I use Valvoline 10W40 OR Havoline 10W40. I'm thinking about switching to Royal Purple after the next oil change. I've switched to Royal Purple ATF.

I buy a K&N filter when I change mine. Its a good filter, but it also has a "nut" on the bottom of it so you can use a socket and ratchet to take it off. A good thing when you have headers that get in the way of an oil filter wrench.

The only downside is that the filter costs $12 as opposed to a Fram which barely costs $5, if that. The oil costs me about $15 for 5 quarts. $25 for Royal Purple 10W40, but don't have to change the oil for at least 7000-10,000 miles.

DUE TO ALL THE DEBATE, I'M JUST GOING TO GO AHEAD WITH MY OIL FILTER DELETE MOD.

If I don't have an oil filter and just block it off, the oil will flow better due to less restriction and the car will weigh less.

1955 Chevy V8 & 235 6 cylinder, none had an oil filter. You had to buy the add on oil filter cannister & filter to have one on your engine.

Even the '56 & '57 235 6 cylinders didn't come with an oil filter. They were add on accessories.

('55 265 V8. notice no oil filter. it would be on the drivers side of the block if it had one)
