Default Do tires make that big of a diference? vibration

took my car in today to a local shop. (my mechanic is unable to look at it till he gets a new place) 2000 monte ss n/a

but i also had them look at the wheel bearings because i swear i can feel a vibration or even slight i dont want to say wiggle but its kinda like that through the car when i do sharp turns or high speed turns (gettin on freeway)

Anyways the first mechanic said he felt nothing. i was like shocked. because its almost become an annoyance to me. (the vibration)

But a second mechanic took it out (for about 30min) and said he could only feel something taking a wide left, his answer was basically the tires are crap... Anyone else notice anything similar on their car??

so do tires really make that big of a difference? the tires came with the car, i only paid 2k for it. mint condition. but has 230k on it. im really not feelin spending a bunch of money to replace tires with more than half tread life left

Cheap Tires Online, Discount Prices from tires-easy.com
I bought 5 245/45R18 for my 02 SS from this site. Paid $86 a piece for them. And I have no complaints about the tires at all.
As for the vibration or wobble, did the mechanic put the car up and check your front end? If it's wobbling it could be your inner or outer tie rods. Put your car on a Jack, grab the tire from side to side and try to shake it. If you can, without the steering wheel moving, it's your tie rods. Then grab it from top to bottom. If you can shake it you have a bad hub bearing. If you have the right tools, you can repair it yourself. I had both bad on the right side of mine. Did the job parked on the street. Took about 2 hrs. Good luck!!!

Great advice, definately worth jacking it up and test as described above to see where your issue is coming from.

Good luck with the troubleshooting.

I know when I first got my Monte the place put a piece of junk tire on the front and when I took it for a test drive you could feel a little vibration. I had them put the bad tires on the back and then I could feel some vibration in the back. Turned out it was a combination of the tires needing to be re balanced along with the bad tires. Once they got balanced it was better but you could still tell there was a little vibration, the tire was a really hard rubber. Now that I have my new tires, which I got about 600 miles ago or so, the vibration went away completely. So you could be like me where it may be a combination of things going on.

Vibrations can be anything from worn bearings, suspension parts, bad alignment, improperly balanced or worn tires. Pretty much, sky's the limit. Best thing to do, start inspecting everything. jack the car up, make sure the anti-sway bar is not broke, endlinks are still good. Wiggle the wheels and check for play in the bearing as well as tie rods and lower ball joints. Spin the wheels to see if you feel anything abnormal about their rotation. Check tread depth around the tires (inside, middle and outside parts of the tread around the outer surface of the tires). Make sure the tires are all inflated to the same amount of air.

Those are your best DIY things to check.

Wink General's Tires

Best tires I've ever gotten where Generals from a Dealer. I would never buy a set of michilan tires. They are to expensive and don't last long enough.

Thank you for all the replys! im sorry i have probably seemed like :that guy: who makes one post and that is it. i apologize! Ive been in the process of moving with my family. took the car in to make sure it could make multiple 300 mile trips. i read your opinions. i might jack it up and see how much wiggle room it has without moving the wheel.

i honestly wont have to much time to look at it. but im hoping to find a new machanic to take a look at it without just charging me 50 for a test drive, the previous place i took it too im almost certain they didn't lift it up and check things out. but honestly at the time i had so much things going on i wasn't going to make a huge deal, because they assured me it would make the trips. but thanks for your opinions and i will look into them and hopefully bring them up to my new :non huge chain: mechanic that will be straight with me :not easy to find:

just ps my car has been at the new house hours away since i posted my op. sorry ive been swamped with moving thanks again everyone!
