Displacement on Demand
Hey 7th gen owners. I'm curious as to how exactly the DOD system works. I know it knocks the engine down to 4 cylinders but at what speeds. Do you notice it? Does it really save any gas? Maybe one of you could make a vid (if anyone sitll has a monte not in storage) Thanks everyone

I don't own a 7th gen but here's the basics. It depends on engine load but IIRC it doesn't activate below 35 mph. I think it activates in 3rd and 4th gear anywhere above 35mph once the engine load % falls below a certain level (which is a whole nother topic that's a formula based mostly on gear, speed, rpm, and how far the throttle is opened). That's all off the top of my head so I may be off on a couple of things. But I'm fairly sure that I covered the basic concept of operation.

i cant answer this from a technical standpoint.
but driving it i was surprised how it goes back and forth from 4 to 8cyl quite often.
before i drove one i thought it would take time or something to trigger it to 4cyl and once there it would stay for a bit.
But it doesn't.
On my 15-20 min commute it must switch back and forth 10 times at least.
Basically when you give it the gas it goes to 8, when you let off or just feather the gas it goes to 4.
