I had this exact problem. It was completely covered under warranty. It's a pretty basic problem, like you said. They apparently have a newer grease they've used since the '06 models.

yeah the 06-07 SS are pretty much the same, & the only prob ive heard of the the trans like most everyone else has said

Yep. I JUST had the ISS replaced on my 06 LT. Covered under warranty.

I've heard of water pumps being pretty common on the 3.5L/3.9L V6's in both 06 and 07.

Otherwise, all the engine's, both V6 and V8 for the 2006 and 2007 Monte's do not have any problems that they are notorious for.

I got my 06 LT 3.9 for 13,000 and it had 13,542 miles on it
