its on the radiator end cap, passenger side, on the back side of the radiator, about half way down. typicly i remove the battery for easier access, and so i can pull the old one off and the new one back on quickly as to only lose a minimal amount of coolant. when i change them, i pop the cap off to relive pressure, and then put it back on to slow coolant escaping while changing the sensor.

Hollywood,
I think it's caused by Time & Age.
I think that's why we have so many parts stores : )
Good Luck, I hope you were able to fix it, and get
your Monte Carlo back in Top Condition.
{Peace},

actually its possible that a water pump going out could cause this, or any other leak for that matter. when a system filled with dexcool gets low, allowing air into the system, dexcool oxidizes. when it does this it basicly looks like mud, cover the sensor with it and it stops working.

but then i've replaced ones that the part exposed to coolant appears new also, the time/age/gm made a crappy sensor comes into play also.
