Default Car wont start help plz!!!

ok i have a 01 mcSS and for some reason, when i put the key in the ignition, nothing on the dashboard lights up and the car will not turn on at all, to get it to start, i had to unhook the middle plug from the BCM and put it back in, and the dash will come on and it will start but not for long, if i leave it off for a while, wont start again, i was told it was the dash[instrument cluster] but a while ago i had a aftermarket alarm installed and it had auto start on it( dumb idea) and for a while if my car was on, it would always say security but i never knew why, so did the auto start mess with my security system even tho i've had the alarm taken out ever since it started to not start?

If you see the security light when you try to start the car it's probably going to be a passlock issue. Which unfortunately the dealer is going to have to replace your system and make your new cylinder respond to your current keys.

That aftermarket alarm sounds like the issue...I think it messed with your passlock, which like Chibi said...dealer!

A lot of the aftermarket alarms have their own engine imobilizers (spelling?) yet GM's Passlock is already an imobilizer, but better than anything aftermarket. I would guess the two combined made for a car that does not run...

My suggestion, get rid of the aftermarket alarm...or just use a very basic, alarm ONLY, with non of the extras....

well the only time it says security is when i disconnect the bcm, then connect back, it will say that b4 i start the car, if i dont disconnect the bcm and just try to start it, nothing will happen, no dashboard lights, only thing i get is radio, and headlight, domelights etc. but nothing dealing with the dash and car starting, as if i had a killswitch installed, which i did when i had the aftermarket alarm, but the alarm is goin now, but ok, so its something dealing with the passlock sensor? what is the dealer going to have to do exactly? and does any1 know how much this will cost?

Well if there's something wrong with your Passlock and BCM because of the aftermarket alarm... you could be looking at almost $800 in repairs...

Get the alarm taken out BEFORE you go to the dealer...that COULD fix your problem...thsoe aftermarket kill switch things don't work so well when they mess up...

BUT, I am leaning toward the alarm needs to go, and on top of that, it screwed up your passlock system...

I have no idea about the price on that...but Chibi's estimate sounds like a good ballpark...

yea its probably the alarm but i remember on my first car i had the same kind of probably but i only had a factory alarm anyway i thought it was the alarm and i would mess with it and sometimes it would work but i found out i just had a loose ground wire and i was just wiggling it inadvertently so its a long shot but might be worth checkin before you spend the money
