ok dude waht about the power steering? that was out in left feild LOL

as far as the expence in the swap. there is not a whole lot if you do the work your self but to take it to the shop it is a "custom " so there for they rake you on it in some places. or at least it feels this way becuse now your paying the Mech. for his time hourly and there is not a labor chart to go off of.

kind of like when you take it in to have the water pump done. there is a set amount of time that is given to do that job. most shops will charge you the 4 hours or what ever it says in this labor book to do the job. even if they have a wrench that can do the job in two hours.

this dose a few things.
1. makes money for the shop as profit. the wrench is only workign on it for 2 hours can also be assing to another car that is not yours so it is more cars in to the shop in the same allotted amount of time.
2. makes you happy becuse you get your car faster so you feel better knwoing it didnt take that long to get it done and you feel they treated you right.
3. frees up the bay for the next car in a shorter amount of time , now he ca charge the next guy the 4 hours for the same job and get it done in 2 hours also. he makes money.

so to have it done they dont have this chart so they charge 100.00 a hour to work on the car then it takes them 10 hours there is a grand of labor alone not to include parts etc....
so this is why it is not cheap to have them do it for ya.
this is also why there are still so many back yeard mechanics out there doing thier own work.
simply put they cant affored it .

as far as i know the power steering is the same all the way threw but they have changed to a remote resivor on newr models
but back then i belive they were the same in the years of question.

now i do know tha tyou can get a SS version of the power steering and also of the gear box and it will improve your steering. but it might take a bit of creative monting or at least finding the brackets tha twill fit for your application. we made mine all the time out of a peice of flat steel and would use them . you can adapt and over come if needed LOL
