Camry will run with Monte SS

RE: Camry will run with Monte SS
Boy, that is the TRUTH!! I snapped 4 U-joints on my truck after the mods I made to it. They were generic made-in-china parts from NAPA. Once I got a GM Performance part from the GM distributor back home, it lasted the whole time I hade my truck.

Might have to cut the city officials some (but only some) slack on this one. I'm sure the local economy improved considering the factory provided jobs and people might have moved into the area. The officials might also have thought - If someone is going to float the cost of building the factory from the ground up in the first place, they should be able to float the taxes when they come due.
Very few of the people running the city when Panasonic built this building are still running the city. For one the mayor died.
now that doesnt make sense because the 305 and the 350 are exactly the same block with a few minor differences, so someone that tells you that a 305 is now where near as good as a 350 doesn't know what theyre talking about
I can tell you 99.9% of the people on MonteSS hate the 305. They all say to dump the stock 305 and shove in a 350 in your 4th generation Monte.
Okay maybe the 305 under the hood of my '86 LS isn't a fire breathing street killer engine but it does okay.
The moron I got the car from ruined the original 305. He had someone install a used 305 H O under the hood. When I got the a lot of stuff was still unhooked under the hood. I asked the guy I got the LS from did this stuff used to work at all? He told me it did work. But ever since he had the engine changed it didn't work anymore. DUH!
Took me like 15 seconds to get the cruise control working again once I found this out. I hooked up two vacuum hoses, test drove the car and gee the cruise now works.

RE: Camry will run with Monte SS
Well, this was an entetaining read! Figured I may as well throw my 2 cents in, so here goes:
Quality? Sorry guys, but GM is at the bottom of the heap. Not just worse than imports, but worse than the other domestics, too. In the past ten years I've owned 5 Dodge trucks, 4 Dodge and Plynouth cars, a Firebird, a Camaro and a Monte Carlo. The GM cars have the feel and ride quality of exactly what they are: cars designed in the 80's. They're not even in th ball park, qualitywise.
Comparing the 25K Malibu SS against 3 30/31K imports? run the test again using an 07 Grand Prix GT with the SC3.8- closer in price and performance.
Validity of magazine road tests? Besides the possibility of using "prepped" cars, you have a professional driver, on a track, under the best conditions, making numerous runs to find out how to get the best number, etc, etc,. None of this really matters when 2 guys go to the dealership and drive off the lot, only to meet each other at a light. Let's face it- a good driver in a 15 second car can beat a bad driver in a 14 sec car, no matter what the magazine says.
Finally, who really gives a fat rats behind about how quick a camry is? What are the real world odds that you'll ever meet one at a light, with a good driver that's willing and able to go full boogie to 60 or more?
TG
Oh, one more thing- some one mentioned something about running a 6 cylinder Mustang against a Monte? I ran My 3.9 against my daughter's 03 V-6 Mustang ( Her boyfreind drove it) Wasn't much of a race- I took him from the dig, and that's all she wrote!

Not Monte related but a couple years ago while I wasn on vacation I stopped by work to pick up my paycheck. On the way home I had to wait on a train. Two guys in a Camry pulled up next to me. Once the train was gone and gates came up this driver wanted to head to head with my '57 Chevy wagon. He thought he'd beat me when I backed off the gas. I could tell from the smerk on his face he "thought" his car had beat the old, american-made car.
