Default Brakes Grinding and ABS light

well for the past few days ive had an odd problem... Usually when im goin somewhere I'll start the car and let it sit for a minute or 2 to warm up a bit. The other day i didnt give it anytime to start since i was goin 3 blocks away to buy some milk, and when i approached the first stop sign the moment i hit the brakes all the pressure was gone, the pedal went to the floor, i heard a deep and scary grinding noise coming from the engine compartment, the wheels locked up and my abs came on. A few seconds later the brakes regained pressure, the car started moving and it didnt give me any more problems. Since then whether i allow the car to warm up or not, I get the same exact problem when i first stop.

I have no idea what this could mean.... I'm kind of scared.

First you need to flush out the lines, they're probably VERY dirty. My friend had this happen to his 02. Never figured out what the problem was but after he cleaned all the lines, it didnt happen again. keep in mind its only been two months since it happend to him but that is definetly a place to start.

Did you do the obvious and check your fluid? Maybe you have gotten some air in the lines.

Would air in the lines cause it to lock up like that though??

I second this scenario. I have been having a similar problem with my car for the past 3 months. My dad manages a mechanics shop and they cant truely pin point the problem even after reading the ABS diagnostics. Here is the list of problems i am having followed by the possible causes/solutions.

1. Hit or miss ABS and Service Traction Control System lights
2. When stopping, grinding noise from engine compartment (ABS Pump)
3. Airplane noise at high speed (Left Rear ball bearing - thats a given)

Fixes
1. Left Rear bearing w/ ABS speed sensor.
2. Pump control Module/ Assembly. Can find them online for 100 bucks but from a dealer they cast $600 at cost for my dad, up to $1200 for someone off the street.
3. Kinked/broken/cloged brake line

I am doing the bearing today and then most likely the pump if it keeps up, I will do my best to keep you updated if you do the same...

p.s. try to find someone that can read your ABS diagnostic codes. Thats your best bet to see whats setting the light off
