Default Brakes

Tired of buying the:

Advance Auto Parts **** rotors and brake pads for my SS.

I'm reading alot about these brakemotive brakes and I looked them up.

I can get these that showed drilled:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Monte...item33610eaee4

or

these that are not showed as drilled:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevy...item43a1ce8617

I've read alot of about them or whatever but they got to be better then what I've been buying and having to change out seems to be every year.

I am somewhat an aggressive driver due to having lights in my vehicle for fire department and idiots stopping in the middle of the road, on curves and hills, etc.

WHat do you guys think on these?

Also, if they are good, what is recommended to do to them before you get them installed.

My monte is Black.

Thank you.

Well, pure2sin and wht02monte, and I think someone else here has had these on their cars with great results. IIRC, wht02monte has over 100k on his and still has plenty of life left on them. pure2sin liked them so much on his car that he's bought 2 more sets for other cars. I too just bought these (the brakemotive one's, same as both members above) and got them this past Thursday. What i'm going to do is paint the hats and outer edges of the rotors black with hi-temp paint to help prevent rust from forming and making them look ugly.

I bought the materials today and am going to get cracking on it tomorrow so I'll take pics and will get up a how-to as well.

All you want to paint is the outer edge of the rotor and the "hat" or the area that's above the surface of the face of the rotor. See my pictures below

I just got done prepping one of my rears, kinda just to see how it would go and how much tape I'd use. I completely masked off the backside of the rotor and will plug up the holes in the rotor once I take it outside to spray tomorrow. The part with the holes in it is called the hat, i'm going to paint the top part with the holes in it as well as the sides, only the part where you see blue tape isn't going to get painted.

To do this, I first cleaned off the rotor with some Purple Stuff degreaser, let it dry, then did the masking. I'll give it another quick wipedown with degreaser right before I paint it. For the paint i'm using some Rustoleum Engine enamel, it's hi-temp paint so i'm hoping it'll hold up to the heat it'll be facing. I guess only time will tell on that.

The fronts are a little different as instead of just being a solid piece, there's air vents in between the front and back side rotor faces and i'm going to paint inside the vented area as well as the edges and hat area.

Is painting necessary?

Also, will you show me the final product when you get it completed please.

Necessary? Well, that depends on who you're talking to. For me, yes. Why? Cause with my stock rims you can see the hats on the rotors and the edges and where they're all rusty looking. But I plan on buying rims sometime soon so they're gonna be even more visible so I want it to look nice and clean back there.

Will they work w/o painting them? Of course! I'll definitely post pics of the final product. Stay tuned
