Best place to sell a garage kept 1985 Monte
Hey guys, I'm a new member here trying to figure out the best place to sell my dad's 85' Monte. I tried to post in the f/s section but it wouldn't let me. Should I ebay it, craigs list or wait for an auction? This car has 90k miles and absolutely in great shape with all the original paperwork. Any advice could help. My dad doesn't wan't it he moved in with me and cannot drive anymore. Thanks Paul

Hi Paul! Welcome to the forum!! In what state are you located?
I believe you will be able to post in the F/S section once you have been a member 5 days AND have 10 or more posts.

I would try and sell it on your local craigslist. That way at least people that look at it are local and you can decide where to have them check it out. I don't think I would want to try to sell it on ebay. That might be more of a headache but truthfully you could always do both but I think it cost money to sell things on ebay.

I agree with Ebay being a bit of a hassle, as Craigslist is so much easier, and you will get local attention, or within a close distance anyways. You can probably upload pics to a photobucket account and include the link in here if you post it in the classified section, and or possibly one of the mods would make an exception for you to allow you to post, but I don't know the whole specifics if that is possible or not.

My dad wan't about $6,900.00. Thats the book value. I don't know what he will get, he's had offers of $3,500 and turned them down. It's not an SS as far as I know. It the only Monte (style) made in 85'

The only way to tell a true 4th Generation (1983 - 1988) Monte Carlo SS from a non-SS by the VIN alone is to look at the 8th digit of the VIN. This is the Engine Code. In 1983, that digit MUST be a '7' for the car to be a true SS. For 1984 through 1988 models, the 8th digit MUST be a 'G'. This signifies the car came with the L69, 305ci, 5.0L High Output V8 engine. SSs came with no other engine
