Is it bad to put the pedal to the metal?
I'm 16, so I'm inexperienced with cars in general, but even more so with my new Monte Carlo. I really like speed, and I love to show off how quick my car is to my friends, but I floor it from a rolling 40km/h and they tell me thats horrible for it and I'm bagging it. Is putting the pedal all the way down really bad for your engine? I know its probably hard on everything if you floor it from 0 but, aren't these kinds of cars meant for that?

Its not bad to put the pedal to the metal. What hurts is the hard downshifts. Try not to floor it when you know it will downshift unless you really need the get up. Its not the engine that is hurting its the transmission. As long as you arent free reving or over reving the engine, its not really that hard on it. Obviously if you do it all the time tho its going to lead to premature wear.

I'm with Matt on this one. I'm all for putting the pedal to the metal occasionally, but doing it all the time will eventually cause you problems. Expensive problems! You're tranny may be the first to go. But if you're constantly red-lining the RPMs, you're engine won't last long either.
Racing engines are designed for high RPMs and abuse. The factory engines in our Montes are not. They will take some, but won't last forever.
Not to sound like your dad or anything. But if you're going to race your friends, do it somewhere safe. Not on public streets. Even though they're called "accidents", you still do jail time.
Hopefully you've been kicking their a$$es in your Monte!

It will eventually do damage. Though once* in a while is ok, which cleans the pistons. Though love her, not abuse her. If you wanta do that, buy a Rosslers tranny....ironically they're located about 2 miles from where I live haha. Remember, transmissions are about $2k ish to fix and having one slip is not fun, nor safe...especially on traintracks haha . Your friends wont be there to fix it for you. .. They cost about $150 to maintain every 4 years or so.

i wouldn't make a habit out of flooring it all the time. i mean, you want to have some fun once in a while, and make sure you do it when it's good and warmed up. also, putting it to the floor obviously isn't good for gas mileage either. i know it's fun to show off to your friends, but don't do it every time they want you to. unless there's a smokin hot girl you are trying to impress, then all of us here at the MCF will understand
