Default 98 z34 monte

Looking at purchasing a 98 z34 monte carlo. Any opinions? Things to look for?

It'll just be my commuter car with some basic mods if I can find them. Haven't been able to find much for them ie wheels, lowering springs, intake ect.

Should be good has the 3800 motor which is a good one Gas mileage is about 27 on the road.

There aren't really a lot of major issues with the 5th gens. Turn signal switch causing brake light issues is one oddball unique to the 5th gens that comes to mind, but it's a relatively cheap fix.

As with all 4t65 cars, I'd check the trans thoroughly - codes, cold and hot shifting, fluid color, etc. IMO, this is probably the most important as a trans rebuild will cost as much or more than the car's worth.

Big thing in general due to age will be checking for rust and all rubber components- suspension, belts, seals, hoses

Wheels are 5x115, typical fwd offset. Not a super common bolt pattern, but there are options out there. Another path is using other Wbody wheels if theres other factory wheels you like from a different model / year.

Not sure if anyone makes springs anymore. Used to be a handful of options out there, so you may be able to find some NOS someone had laying around in storage or something. The typical DIY Wbody coilovers work for the rear. Fronts are doable, but require more custom work than a typical 2nd gen W.

As far as engine mods, the skys the limit with the 3800. Look at ZZP and intense racing for starters for your L36. Cam, turbo, supercharger top swap - theres lots of options.

Only thing I'd suggest is not putting too much into an NA engine as they really dont pick up much power. I'd also avoid headers as they're a pain to do on 5th gens.
