Trading LS for Z34

Trading LS for Z34
I have a 1999 Monte Carlo LS. It has a dark green paint, there are some large scratches on parts of the car I've fixed with touch up paint. It has the smaller 3.1 liter engine, cloth seats, a real standard version, it came with the cassette player, chrome on the front is chipped up bad, but it runs great no problems there, interior has cuts here and there nothing too major, 2 big noticeable stains though.
The Monte I saw was the Z34 model. It had a darker maroon colored paint, factory condition exterior, no scratches nicks or bumps. Inside black leather looked completely factory too except the driver seat was a little worn, the shifter was in the center. That's as much as I know about it so far. And the price $5,000, with my trade it will be $4,000 - $3,500.
I previously owned a 1996 Monte Carlo LS it had a 3800 engine, I totaled that one from the slick winter roads around my apartment. So I got the one i have now, I want too feel that power out of my engine that I lost when I got the 3.1. I don't know much about the Z34 Im guessing it's the 5 gen SS?
So, my questions are from my description do you know the year of the Z34, is worn leather is the repair\blacken up, what engine comes with the Z34's, did Chevy make a 5th gen Monte SS that was distributed, and the difference in power between the 3.4, 3.8 Montes.
Thanks in advance for your help.

the Z34 could be concidered the 5th gen SS, but 5th gens also had a Z34 option that was an SS factory bodykit/ ground effects. a 5th gen Z34 came with a 3.4 leitre DOHC
v6 that is known to be finickey in high milage cars, i think in 98/99 they swiched to the 3800. the leather is uaually warn, and console lids tend to be broken. however, a z34 came with a heaver duty trans, better suspention, rear discs, leather, cd, leather wrapped steering wheel with stereo controlls built in, all had buckets / console, a "sport" grille, dual exaust, and all had alloy wheels with a colored bowtie instead of chrome.

95-97 Z34 had the 3.4L DOHC V6. 215hp 220lb ft. 98-99 Z34 had the 3800 V6. 200hp 225lb ft. 95-96 had 4t60e trans and 97-99 had the 4t65e. The 3.4 is no less reliable than the 3800 with proper maintanence. It is just harder to work on and maintanence is more expensive.

chibiblacksheep, here in Cincinnati, i've seen 5th Gen LS's sell for over $4k with over 130,000 miles on them! This seems to be the only place that the 3.1 can fetch twice the Kelly Blue Book value. I've seen the Z34s in decent condition sell for close to $7k at a local dealer! My '98 is in better shape then 80% of what I see sell for ridiculously high prices!

I'm sorry but that is just absurd... I'd rather find something not even local if that were the case and go get it with a friend and do some road-tripping.
And of course at a dealer you will find high prices, but I wouldn't do anything that high! jeez.

cutthroat, i liked how the white monte on craigslist was missing a hubcap. you would think they would make an attempt to atleast put one from the other side on that wheel so it looks like it has all 4. thats rediculus.
chevyrider, idk how many miles are on your car, but it sounds like a fairly good trade in value they want to give for your car, especially scince it sounds like a bench seat model. does it have full hubcaps? and how many miles are on the Z34 you want, and what year is it? is there a link to an ad you can post? i would see if you can talk em down another $500, and dont take less than $1500 for your car.
