97 Monte cylinder misfire help
Ive got a 97 Monte Carlo 3.4L engine. Check engine light started coming on last week. Had the code read and it was cylinder 2 misfire. Checked the plug and wire, everything looked ok. Swapped plug wire with cylinder 4. Code still reads cylinder 2 misfire. Swapped the spark plug with cylinder 4. Still reads cylinder 2 misfire. So taht pretty much leaves the coil pack as being bad right? Aside from something internally wrong which I doubt. There are 2 cylinders on each coil. 2 and 5 are together. Can just one side of the coil be going bad since I am not having trouble with cylinder 5 at all?
If it isnt the coil pack, Im guessing the injector could be failing. never messed with an injector. Are they easily accessed on this engine or do I need to be pulling the intake? Ive got a Haines repair manual but it isnt very informative as to where the injectors are located.

the 3.4 is kinda a pain to work on, the intake probibly has to come off, but im not sure.... i could go take a look at my dads Z34 later & see where the injectors are.... you could also try dumping a container of injector cleaner in with a tank of midgrade gas, some of the additives might help to burn off any buildup on the injectors....

No I didnt clear the code. Figured that doing either would produce a new code to show up as cylinder 4 misfire. The computer wouldnt stop adding new codes would it because of an existing code?
How much trouble is it to remove the intake if it has to be taken off?

for the intake manifold it should just unbolt & lift off after you make sure to unplug any sensors / remove the air - intake hose.... the older style 3.1's were a similar setup.... check out your haynes manuel, too... i know they are not the best but they can give you a better idea....

I put two bottles in friday night and took to the hwy for about an hour. Seems a little better but the problem is still there. I pulled the injector yesterday and it looked great. Unless there is corrosion inside of it that I dont see. Might try to swap it with the injector next to it. Those two are easy enough to pull without removing the fuel rail or anything else.
When I clear the code, I can take it out driving and get another code in 2 minutes or it might take 15 or 20. So it must not be a constant problem. Im about to just let my mechanic mess with it. ARGH!

strange thing happened. I swapped the #2 and #4 injectors. Now I am getting a code 300 which is a multiple cylinder misfire. Not sure what to think. Wonder if I should swap them back and see if I am back to just a code 302 cylinder 2 misfire??
