I also had a 1978 Monte Carlo with a 305 V-8 and a factory four speed that I bought slightly used. It was black with a white vinyl interior. It was all original. I sold it to Steve West of West Chevrolet in Knoxville TN in 1982 I believe. It had Appliance Plating chrome wire wheels on it. I last saw it in Sweetwater, TN not long after I sold it.

About 8 years ago I had purchased a 1978 monte Carlo with factory 4 speed and was a v-8 305 car but the people I bought it from was 16 and didn't like how it sucked the gas . when I went and looked at it we drove up to tyndall south Dakota with a 1998 old's acheiva and the kid wanted to trade even up . he had all documents that it came with factory to prove it was what he said it was . the person before him had removed the heater stuff and put 4:56 spool rear with c-clip eliminate , had a big tech Gor street racing since it was used for street racing in Arizona ..it had a mild 350 with headers and header mufflers. . and woe the 😥 day in my car life was when I sold it for 3500 but it went to a guy in Ellsworth mn and was told he restored it since he was all about the rarity of the car. So yes it was a he'll of a ride and very fast and sideways a lot
.. Can't help it with the Muncie rock crusher trans and the low gears and spool. And when u engage the line lock it was all smoke and gone . when u released the line lock . .. Thanks for ur time . hope it helps to prove the fact that 78 monte did have 4 speeds . was told it was so monte Carlo body's could be used in NASCAR .
