How do I find out of my Monte was GM Certified?

Is this printed on part of the paperwork that came with the car? Or is it something additional given to you?

 

Ask your selling dealership if it is certified.

 

The letter I got my the saleslady (I'dasked about the used cars being covered under the 5yr/100,000 mile warranty) says, "Our dealership is not a GM Certified Used Vehicle Dealer. Although, with the enhancement of this program we are giving it further consideration. Until now the benefits did not out-weigh the drawbacks, which essentially resulted in a higher cost for the consumer."

So it looks like I'm screwed as far as this goes.

 

You don't need the warranty. Like I said before in another post I've owned 4 W-body cars now and not 1 has EVER broken down on me. Other than routine maintenance never had 1 problem.

 

You could be right about not needing the 5yr/100,000 mile warranty.

But looking at it from my view point, I've felt the dealer tried to screw me over cause of a couple things that happened. First and foremost is them NOT telling me the extended warranty I purchased had a $100 deductable each and every time I used it. I was signing the papers to buy the car when they said this.

Yes I feel I got a very good extended warranty but I also know my parents never got K-rap like this from Mopar on the vehicles they've ever bought. Which is quite a few.

This '06 Monte is the first car payment I've had in 20 years. If it's possible to make the as pleasurable as possible for me then that's what I'd like to happen. I do not have the extra cash to buy a car. But I wanted one of the '06 Montes really bad. So buying this car, something else isn't going to happen. Like work done on my '57s.

Only after a lot of flak from the service manager and my insisting on talking with the dealership owner did the service manager bend on the extended warranty.

 

Yes, paying an extra $25 a month is worth "peace of mind" for me at least.

And Space, it's good to know that I have 39k even though my salesman errored by telling me I had to 36k.

 

Guys, the post earlier is correct, any vehicle that is GM certified after march 5th is given the warrantee. This means if you purchased a vehhicle that was already GM certified (you got the extra 3 months 3k mile) then there's no go, unless you sell the car to a dealership and re-purchase it as GM certified again. If the car was NOT gm certified then if you know the owner well enough he could post-purchase certify the car (this costs the dealership money to do it) and when he GM certifies it after March 5th, Bingo, 5 year/100k mile warranty

 

Sorry to ask so many questions about this guys but, this extra 3 months/3,000 miles I see a lot of you talking about, could someone post more information about this?

On the 5yr/100,000 miles deal for Certified Used cars/trucks, I was told this morning my Monte wasn't ellegable for it.

 

I think that it wasn't eligible for the free warranty, but you can buy the new warranty before you hit 36k on any GM car or 39k on any Certified GM car.

I believe the 36k/39k warranty is a bumper to bumper one. The 5/100,00 warranty is a drive train warranty.

If your sunroof breaks down or your doors rattle, you have to get them fixed for free before 36k/39k. After that you may have to pay even though you have to 5/100,000.

 

Yeah, if you ask a dealer unless they're really friendly or trying to sell a car, you're car isn't eligible for the 5/100k warranty. It's technically only for cars certified and purchased after March 5th. But GM doesn't need proof of purchase of the vehicle to give the warranty, they only need proof of the GM Certified program (which the dealer pays to get). When the dealer bought the GM Certified used paperwork for the vehicle, they used to get the extra 3 month and 3k miles. (hence the 39 month/39000 mile) instead of the standard new car 3 year/36 month 36000 mile warranty. Now, for vehicles certified after March 5th, they get the 5/100k.
