3800 Series III

RE: 3800 Series III
the supercharger in the car would cause it to destroy a 3.9l off the line just because how a supercharger throws power across the dyno curve. I personally love all monte engines, except my 3400. I have it modded out to the point where when I race 3800 s/c and N/A, I always beat the n/a even with slight mods. The 3800 s/c is just simply a beast for a v-6 and my 3400 does not stand a chance to the VVT on the 3.9

i'm very curious to see how my car keeps up with the 3.9's and the 5.3's
"because i have no problems with the 4.6l mustangs..."

Whoa...first off, if I were you, I would save the embarrassment! There is almost no way in the world that a Chevy Monte Carlo will beat a Mustang...just back out of it now!!!
that was a pretty bold statement to make. i don't think the fool realizes he's talking about are car that weighs less than a mustang with virtually the same hp/tq (300/320 gt, 303/323 ss).
the fact that you say you have no problems taking on 4.6 mustangs (with your sc 3.8l mc)makesthe statement made by the above buffoon even more ridiculouswhen he's talking about the 5.3l v8. i think the guy is probably afraid that the ss mc would smoke the gt mustang & does not want to find out that he owns a slug.
in the end it does not matter which car is faster. i'd rather push a chevy than drive a ford
cheers,

yah, i think the 3.8 supercharged though is 240?? so its right close to the 3.9 l hp wise...and then the mods are so easy to do to the 3.8 superchaged engine.. so it should be pretty easy to get it over 300 hp

RE: 3800 Series III
A couple of final thoughts on the LaCrosse since I returned it today.
(Too bad the Montes interiors are based on a 10 year old design. They could use a couple of the following touches.)
The simulated wood grain was a very nice touch.
The lighted indicator on the console for theshifter is always nice.
The rubberized compartments in the console are huge.
The rubberized, closed bottom, door handles on the inside are bitchin' for cell phones.
The stereo system blows the LTZ system out of the water with the tweeters on the A-posts and probably 600 watt subs in the doors.
The Odometer and Tripmeter on at the same time.
The option to turn off all of theannoying chimes for traction or autolights or seatbelts.
A small warning light with a "?" mark that tells you the autolights are off.
The seats were much more comfortable than the Monte.
3-lighter jacks in the rear seating area.
....and a few more things that I may have forgotten.

So what's the difference between the 3800 series III and II engine - I thought GM dropped the 3800 engine?

Series III
The Series III motors include many changes. The upper intake manifold is now aluminum on the naturally aspirated models. Intake ports are midly improved, 1.83" intake valves (instead of 1.80" as on Series II) and 1.52" exhaust valves were introduced in 2003 engines, just before switching to Series III. Electronic throttle control is added to all versions, as is returnless fuel injection. Stronger powdered metal sinter forged connecting rods are used in 2004+ supercharged, and 2005+ naturally aspirated engines, instead of the cast iron style from Series II engines. Emissions are also reduced. In 2005, it was the first gasoline engine in the industry to attain SULEV (Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle).
Also note that Series III engines are the base for any 3800 produced for the 2004 year and up. This means the same block, heads, & connecting rods apply to any remaining Series II engines made after 2004 also. The difference is that Series III engines received the new superchargers (if equipped), intake manifolds, fuel systems, and electronics.

RE: 3800 Series III
Gm is still using the 3800 and 3800 sc in current autos. The engine dates back to the 70's. It's a very strong engine and in s/c form very easy to mod and make insane hp. I had a 98 GTP and with an intake, Borla cat-back, u-bend delete, smaller pulley and other supporting mods was making somewhere around 290-300. It is was a daily driver with no problems. I should have never parted with that car and got the LTZ. Although I like the new monte it isn't that kewl of a car.
