Amy, I understand they're not going to put a bunch of aftermarket mods on their museum engine. And the fact is you can't change the past. I guess my point here is this:

The 3800 Series II was put into the GP and 6th gen Monte. Both cars that were marketted as performance/sporty cars. GP and Monte owners know how much power you can really get out of the 3800 series II engines. But GM watered-down the performance of these engines from the factory for fuel economy.

By today's standards, it's kind of embarassing to put an engine that was used in so-called "performance cars" into a museum. And stating proudly to the world it only had 205 horsepower.

If this thread topic appeared on forums for Ford, Mopar, or an import forum, I think most people would be laughing. Hell, my cousin's 3.6 litre 2012 Camaro has 323 horsepower.

I know you can't change the past. But sometimes the past is a little embarassing.

That is pretty sweet & hey even at 205hp still more than a 5.0 mustang from the late 80s

Yeah, but that's not really a fair comparison. There are so many years separating those two drive trains. Seriously, a 205HP 3800 Series II is better then my STOCK '84 Z28 305 High Output drive train that puts out 190HP.

It's almost apples and oranges to compare. Plus, the early 80's had both a Mustang AND Camaro/Firebirds that offered 4 cylinder engines. This was due to comping out of the fuel crisis of the 70's and big changes taking place with emissions laws.

i agree. i think comparing a 2012 camaro to a 05 monte or a 05 monte to a 84 camaro isnt a fair comparison. everything advances. technology is at an all time high now! if they were all the same year it would make more sense. im sure if there was a 2012 monte it would be making near the same hp as a 2012 camaro

Interesting, I live about 30 minutes south straight down that road.

I'll have to check out that museum sometime.
