If it was indeed built for police service there will be an RPO code designation. You can check your VIN here:
Comprehensive Chevrolet, Saturn, GMC, Hummer, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Geo, Dodge, Plymouth, Jeep, Chrysler, Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda Truck, Mercedes VIN Decoder

I didn't know that any 3400's were considered HO's. If it makes it easier for you though, all 3400's in Monte's put out 180hp and 205 ft lbs of torque. So it doesn't really matter what it is. Although I think that in Grand Am's there were some variations in output, but it was 170hp or 175hp, so less then what a Monte LS would make.

Having owned one of the grand am gt's with the HO 3.4 engine, I can tell you that the high output was because of the ram air intake on the GT. Only increased the grand am gt's horsepower 5 horses over the grand am se with the same engine.
Cutting a big hole in the bottom of your Monte's airbox could be good or bad. Depending on the temperature of the air going in. Cold air increases horsepower. Hot air usually decreases power.

I noticed in my rpo's where the motor is listed it said 3.4 ho that kind of surprised me. I bought the car from a car lot and it showed on the paper work as the florida highway patrol as last owner. anyways its has plenty of power for me . oh and it does look like it started life out as a rent a car for enterprise.its a wonder its not beat worse than it is.

Hey guys not sure how to start a thread yet lol sorry maybe i'm just a bit slow, anyways i sold my 2003 Grand Am GT a few years back and now having my 04 Monte LS with a 3400 is bringin back some memories, I regreted selling that car 2 days after I did, long story short I can not find a cheap place to get the VIN checked and find out where it is or who owns it or if its just in a junkyard wrecked! If someone could help more I would be far more than greatful, if it helps any the VIN number is 1G2NW52EX3C233367, I have not been able to find anywhere that is lower than $34 to check the VIN and the dealer I sold it to will not get me a CARFAX if anyone can help me I would again be more than thankful, if not thank you anyways for the help/input.

Click that.
Also, most internet forums do not appreciate it when people ask for a Carfax without paying for it. That kind of thread could get locked. Unless you know someone personally who has a subscription to Carfax, you'll have to pay the charges for it.

i wasnt just asking for it i was asking if there was anyone who knew if there was cheaper route for the information. I apologize if i worded that any other way. And when i wrote carfax i meant i asked the dealer and he refused even though he had a copy since he had bout the car from me and the buyer requested it. And i meant that i checked carfax and it would cost about $35. I would not expect it free of charge i was simply wondering if there was a cheaper route for the same information. again i apologize if i worded it wrong or made it sound any other way
